Artist's statement
I have always been fascinated with the power and energy of stone and intrigued
by its permanence throughout the ages. Working with my hands logging, mining,
and fishing made me think that carving stone was something I could do. Although
I began in 1996, with the influence and help of Mark Heisel of Hope, ID, I am mostly
self-taught.
I love using shapes that occur in nature. I believe we live in a creative universe that
is always creating and that stone is a major building block in this universe.
It will be around forever.
My own work is about helping the stone evolve into shapes and textures. It has taken
the form of custom headstones, public art projects, fountains, and artistic private
commissions now located in Idaho, Montana, and Utah.
The past few years I have been privileged to work with design artist, Randy Raak and
International Tumblestone. This team is capable of putting any project together. It’s
a joy to gather ideas and bring them into manifestation. Being part of a team is also
helpful as I am always in the learning process.
